Rutherford County Schools adopted and initiated a robotics program in schools across the county. The Carolina Isobots initiative aims to excite and engage more students in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) activities. Throughout the year, elementary and middle school students learn about programming a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology, completing complex missions on a challenge mat, and collaborating to solve real-world problems related to the challenge. Students participate in countywide competitions where teams are scored on project presentation, robot design, and core values, along with several rounds of timed competition. The Carolina Isobots Competition consist of teams from Rutherford County Schools, Polk County Schools, and Spartanburg County Schools.
